LILY Letter 36: The Greatest Gift is Love

December 14, 2021

Featured YouTube Video this Week: Divorce and the Holidays

Christmas can be a complicated time for mid-singles. There is child-sharing between families--often blended families. Sometimes we don't even get to see our young children on Christmas morning or the entire day. The wounds of divorce or other loss may be fresh, or the holidays may simply remind you that you want--but don't have--a special person to celebrate the holidays with. We have a lot of mid-single friends on social media; and this time every year we begin seeing posts made by people in pain because they feel left out by life. We have been there and we feel that pain with you.

Your pain is valid and you should acknowledge it. We also want to encourage you to remember that the joy of the season is about love--and that love is there for the taking. Perhaps the most recited and well-known scripture in the New Testament is:

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life" (John 3:16).

The precious gift of the Son of God is our greatest gift at Christmas; and it belongs to you as much as any other person. As the angel said to the Shepherds on the night of Christ's birth:

"Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to ALL PEOPLE. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord" (Luke 2:10-11, emphasis added).

"All people" unquestionably includes divorcees, widowed people, and those who have not yet married. These tidings of great joy are for you. The love of God and Christ is the greatest gift and it belongs to ALL of us!

The next greatest gift we can receive at Christmas is the love of another person--romantic or otherwise. That’s what our work with “Love In Later Years” (LILY ) is all about. We desire to reach as many mid-singles who have lost hope as possible. We prepare written articles, podcasts, and videos with love and we hope you feel that love as you read, listen, and watch.

Please help us share messages of hope and intentional action toward creating more love in life to those you feel would benefit. Here are links to the many FREE resources we offer. Be sure to SuBsCriBe, FoLLoW, LiKe and CoMmEnT! That will help us reach more people too. Thank-you for being part of our LILY community, we so very much appreciate your love and support.
